Topdrill Geotech was engaged to assess ground conditions along the proposed route of the KiwiRail Line in Wellington. This critical project aimed to inform the design and construction of a line upgrade, ensuring long-term stability and operational safety.
The primary objective was to deliver precise and reliable geotechnical data that would guide the KiwiRail engineering team in their decision-making process. By conducting thorough ground assessments, we provided insights that would underpin the success of the rail line's upgrade.
To do this, Topdrill Geotech deployed a combination of advanced drilling and testing techniques, including:
- Triple Tube Coring: Utilised to extract high-quality core samples for accurate analysis of subsurface conditions.
- Standard Penetration Tests (SPT): Carried out to determine soil strength and composition at various depths.
- Installations: Piezometers and inclinometers were installed to monitor subsurface water levels and ground movements over time.
The proximity of the main railway line introduced tight timeframes and required our team to meticulously plan and coordinate each phase to avoid disruption to rail services. Additionally, the isolated nature of the site demanded extra logistics and communication efforts to ensure safety and efficiency.
Despite these challenges, Topdrill Geotech successfully delivered high-quality geotechnical data within the project's timeline. The results provided critical insights that shaped the design and construction of the KiwiRail Line upgrade, ensuring its long-term stability and operational reliability.
This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering reliable geotechnical solutions in complex and high-pressure environments, with a focus on precision, safety, and collaboration.
